With a wide range of ever-changing products, we have established some key store policies to ensure a smooth and transparent experience for you and efficient organization for us. Here are some of the policies we think you’ll find helpful.

Return Policy

Thank you for supporting Second Chance! Your purchases contribute to our innovative job training and workforce development programs across Baltimore and beyond. Please take note of our return policies:

  • Final Sale Items: Any item marked down or discounted by 15% or more is FINAL SALE and not eligible for return.
  • Full-Price Returns: Items purchased at full price are returnable within 10 calendar days from the date of purchase, accompanied by a receipt. Please note that a 15% restocking fee will be applied to all returns.

Sold & Hold Policy

If you purchase an item but cannot take it with you right away, we offer a hold service under the following conditions:

  • Hold Period: Items must be picked up within 10 calendar days of purchase.
  • Storage Fees: Items held beyond the 10-day period may be resold, or a $10 per day storage fee will be applied.
  • No Refunds for Overheld Items: After 10 days, items left uncollected may be resold, and no refund will be issued.

Appliance Testing Policy

We strive to accept and sell only appliances in good working condition as reported by the donor. While we test appliances to the best of our ability, please note the following:

  • Refrigerators & Freezers: We test refrigerators and freezers to make sure they reach their coldest temperature.
  • Gas Appliances: Sold as-is since we are unable to connect them to a gas line.
  • Electric Stoves: We verify all burners reach the appropriate temperature.
  • Washers: All washers are tested on their most intense cycle.
  • Dryers: Electric dryers are tested by drying items washed in-store.
  • Dishwashers: Sold as-is since we do not connect them to water for testing.
  • Microwaves: Tested by heating items to confirm proper function.

Look for a “Tested” indicator on the back of each appliance, which confirms testing was conducted and indicates the date. All tested appliances are returnable within 10 calendar days of purchase for a full refund or exchange with a receipt. We recommend replacing all hoses and supply lines.

Appliances such as stoves and washers may not have knobs on our showroom floor—rest assured, those knobs are behind our service counter and will be provided after purchase.

Lead Disclaimer

Many items available at Second Chance are salvaged or donated, often from locations we’re unfamiliar with. If an item is painted or otherwise finished, assume the finish may contain lead. Please take the necessary precautions to avoid contamination. By purchasing, the buyer acknowledges this possibility and indemnifies Second Chance from any future liability related to these items.

Thank you for helping us make a difference through reuse and workforce development. If you have any questions about our policies, please feel free to call our store or contact us online today.
