At Second Chance Inc., we believe in the incredible power of repurposing and reusing. We’re thrilled to accept a wide variety of items—everything from furniture and building materials to “oddities” and historic relics—and transform them into life-changing opportunities for people who need a second chance in the workforce.

Why Donate to Second Chance?

When you donate your furniture, appliances, household goods, architectural salvage or other gently-used goods to Second Chance, you’re fueling a mission that extends far beyond the transaction of goods. Here’s how:

  • Job Training and Workforce Development
Proceeds from donated items directly support our hands-on training program, offering paid job opportunities to those who face barriers to employment.
  • Environmental Conservation
By finding new homes for architectural elements, household items, and salvageable materials, you’re preventing perfectly usable goods from ending up in landfills.
  • Community Savings
Offering gently used items at affordable prices benefits local homeowners, small business owners, landlords, and DIY enthusiasts. The money saved often goes back into our local community, supporting a healthy economic ecosystem.
  • Tax Deduction
As a nonprofit, we provide a receipt for your donation so you can enjoy the added perk of a tax deduction.

What Can Be Donated to Second Chance?

It’s often said we accept everything but the kitchen sink—but actually, we take that, too! Our expansive warehouse in Baltimore is filled with donated goods that tell unique stories. We welcome donations of:

  • Building Materials and Architectural Salvage: Doors, windows, columns, mantels, transoms, shutters, stained glass, lumber, roofing supplies, or other construction leftovers
  • Home Furnishings and Décor: Couches, chairs, tables, armoires, beds, dressers, mirrors, lamps, chandeliers, rugs, art, collectibles, or home décor items
  • Appliances and Fixtures: Refrigerators, ovens, microwaves, washing machines, dryers, stoves, garbage disposals, dishwashers, sinks, tubs, toilets, vanities, and more
  • Household Goods and Oddities: Dishes, china, electronics, gym equipment, tools, toys, garden elements, patio furniture, pews, cameras, clocks, memorabilia
  • Items with Historical Value: Vintage pieces, antiques, and unusual objects with a story to tell

If you’re not sure whether an item is suitable for donation, feel free to reach out. Our process ensures we’re able to accept items that are in saleable condition. Don’t worry if you think your donation is a bit unusual; we love oddities, vintage finds, and even historical curiosities! In most cases, if something is in good or excellent condition, we can put it to use in our store to support our mission.

We know these treasures were important to you. Our team takes pride in carefully picking up, loading, and transporting your donated items to our store to maintain their value.

Drop Off Your Goods

Please bring your items to “Bay 8” at our warehouse! Look for signage that directs you to our donation drop-off zone. (Use the Street View above to get a feel for where Bay 8 is!) Our friendly staff will help unload your donations. Once we’ve checked the condition of your items, we’ll provide you with a receipt for your tax records.
